Idea the First:
I really like this idea: 50 Crafty Projects in 2007. The blogger basically did just that–made 50 crafty things over the course of the year and posted her results. I’d like to try that for next year; it would basically be just about 4 items per month. Art or craft would apply, from gluebook pages to amigurumi to a new recipe for borscht. Whatever.
Who’s with me?!
As an aside, she has some lovely projects up, such as a cat bed, a catnip toy, and some simple beaded stitch markers for knitters. But even if you don’t like her projects or maybe want to focus on a single craft/art, it’s an interesting idea, no? Not unlike the “just get your butt in the chair” approach of NaNoWriMo.
Idea the Second:
Another interesting idea is to write about someone from your life every day for a year–just a quick blurb will do. It might spawn some good writing projects or perhaps more visual projects, if you were inspired to paint something for that person. Might even get you renewing friendships or shoring up the ones you currently have. You don’t have to post to your blog–you could use your own moleskine or whatever. Or do a visual entry only–some kind of symbol that represents the person, as I might choose a dragon to represent A.O. since she once told me she like and collected them, or Ganesh for J.R. That’s an interesting and useful experiment in visual symbology or personal myths in itself.
Besides, no one should be forgotten, and it might be a good chance to say those things we want/need to say, but can’t say actually to the person in question. Cathartic or sweet (or both by turns)–your choice.
